Overview

University Child Development School (UCDS) located in Seattle, Washington is an independent school serving 390+ Infant-Toddler, Early Elementary (Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten) and Elementary (1st through 5th grade) students. In addition, the UCDS education institution comprises the UCDS Graduate School of Education. UCDS uniquely serves to prepare teachers, educate children, and develop innovations in curriculum and teaching. UCDS’s unique design as a place where both teachers and children learn, where early-career teachers develop their practice, and where experienced teachers research and design curriculum, gives rise to its innovation. The Master of Education program is the evolution of UCDS’ deep history of developing and supporting exceptional educators.


Job Summary

UCDS is seeking Summer Facilities Staff to support campus maintenance, repair, and preparation for the upcoming academic year. This is an excellent opportunity for college students or individuals interested in hands-on facility work within a collaborative and educational setting. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • General Maintenance & Repairs: Assist with painting, taping, laying protective coverings, and general upkeep of campus facilities. 
  • Custodial Support: Clean, sanitize, and maintain designated areas, classrooms, common spaces, and equipment. 
  • Furniture & Equipment Setup: Assemble and arrange furniture according to diagrams and instructions. 
  • Safety Compliance: Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, proper lifting techniques, and safety protocols. 
  • Team Collaboration: Work alongside the Facilities Management Team to complete assigned tasks efficiently. 
  • Visitor Assistance: Provide courteous assistance to school employees, faculty, and guests using campus facilities. 
  • Ad Hoc Duties: Complete additional projects as assigned by supervisors.

Education and/or Experience 

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Basic knowledge of workplace safety, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment (PPE). 

Qualifications

  • Communication Skills: Ability to interact with staff, students, and the public in a professional and respectful manner. 
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform manual labor, work on your feet for extended periods, and lift/move up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, and climb ladders throughout the shift. Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials weighing up to 25 lbs. (regularly) and 50 lbs. (occasionally).
  • Teamwork & Independence: Ability to follow instructions, work both independently and collaboratively, and complete tasks with minimal supervision. 
  • Background Check: All employees must pass a criminal background check per Washington State employment laws. 
  • Work Authorization: Must provide valid documentation for employment eligibility as per federal law. 

Compensation

$20/hour
